The Khanda in the emblem that symbolizes 4 pillars of the Sikh faith.
It is made of weapons. In the center is the double edged sword.
This symbolizes divinity and the creative power of God. Around the
double edged sword is the Chakkar. This symbolizes the unity with God.
Finally there are the 2 swords, one on either side crossing at the handles.
One sword signifies miri, the other piri (after the weapons of Guru
Hargobind) symbolizing, spiritual and temporal power. |

This is one of the most
significant parts of Sikhism. Ek Onkar means 'God is One'. These
are the first two word in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and are also part of
the Mul Mantra. It was written by the first Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev
Ji.
Mul Mantra:
There
is but one God. Truth by name, the creator, all-pervading spirit, without
fear, without enmity. Whose existence is unaffected by time, who does not
take birth, self-existent, who is to be realized through his grace.

This is the name of the Sikh flag. It is orange saffron cloth which
covers the Khanda (spear). It is found on every Sikh Gudwara.
It was first introduced by Sri Guru Hardgobind Singh Ji. The nishaan
sahib is replaced once a year usually
around Vaisakhi day and is washed with
milk, then a new flag is placed on it. |
